"Prove It" is an echo poem which actually couches a math problem inside its structure—namely, how many poems does it contain? It is three poems in one. The stanza on the left can stand on its own. The column on the right is meant to be read vertically. The third and principal poem is a combination of the first two, whereby the last word of every line on the left rhymes with its counterpart on the right. My only concern was that people outside of Canada and Britain might not pronounce the word “the” (which appears before a word starting with a vowel) like “thee” and would not appreciate the rhyme with the word “key.” That aside, I believe that the beauty of mathematics is apparent when complex concepts are distilled into their constituent parts—the theme of this poem.
