With Love and God There Is No Time

When I asked “How could He make me because
He loved me if I hadn’t been born yet?”
the catechism teacher said, “With God
there is no time. He’s timeless.” “I don’t get
it,” I replied—which was true at the time.
Then when my cousin said that God is Love,
I still did not quite understand, but thought
that Love is timeless, too. And I thought of
those I have loved who are long gone but are
still here with me, as if Time never was.
Then I thought of you, and the way you take
your time, almost shamelessly, because
you’re loved, and know it. So we’re always late,
but I don’t really mind. That’s what Love does.
