City Night
The dark time is coming,
but the nights here are not country-dark.
Not bottom of your pocket, coyote-howling dark.
Streetlights flicker on at sun’s setting,
before night settles in
and apartments light up,
one square at a time, brightening
the skyline before stars take over.
All wait for the moon to rise over the lake.
And when it is full,
we almost forget about the sun.
